Well this is just the first day to get off the island before the trip begins.
Glad we did this as we were due to sail at 15.00 but due to problems with the ferry we were delayed for 2 hours. The journey across was a bit rough in the beginning but then settled out. We caught some shut eye on the boat and chatted a little. Lucky we did this as if we had begun our journey tomorrow we might not have made our ferry from Newcastle to Haugasund. We arrived into Liverpool at 19.50 and then disembarked. We dropped into James’s mom on our way to our accommodation for the night so that she could see him off and wish both of us well.
We continued our ride from Liverpool to Skipton where we were to spend the night with a friend of James, John Walker. We arrived there about 21.45 after along tedious ride along the motorway in the evening with short outbreaks of rain. The scenery was better once we left the motorway and the sky cleared slightly showing a full moon. On our arrival at John Walkers we were greeted by himself and his wife Marian. We were invited in with warm hospitality and sat down to a hot cup of coffee. They had prepared dinner of bread, salad and ox-tail stew (mmmm delicious) for us.
After dinner his daughter Ann-Marie and Paul her husband arrived. We showed them our bikes and kit and explained our cause and journey to them; they were all really excited and wished us well. We then retired to bed
